Study programs in Medical Informatics, Telemedicine and e-Health
The Department of Computer Science offers several study programs in Medical
Informatics, Telemedicine and e-Health:
- "Telemedicine and e-Health": Two-years international Master's degree.
Taught in english.
- "Medical Informatics and Telemedicine" / "Medical Computer Science": 5
years program as part of the Department's Bachelor and Master-program.
The study programs offers
state-of-the-art knowledge within the fields. The students will be
involved in the research activity in medical informatics, telemedicine and
e-health at the University of Tromsø and the Norwegian Centre for telemedicine.
Telemedicine and e-Health, Technology Program
The Faculty of Science offers a new two-year
Master’s Degree Programme in Telemedicine and E-health, starting autumn 2005.
The program in Technology
focuses on the construction of telemedicine and e-health systems. The program
has been developed and will be offered in close cooperation with the
Norwegian Centre
for Telemedicine. Completion of the study program qualifies for the degree
"Master of Science in Telemedicine and E-health".
Both Norwegian and international students can apply for the programme.
The program will be given solely in English.
Admission requirements
Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent approved education in computer
science.

Form of Teaching
The techology program is a full-time on-campus program. The teaching involves
lectures, colloquium, and laboratory work.
The master’s thesis
The program ends with a one semester master's thesis (30 ECTS). The
thesis project is done in cooperation with a research project.
Tuition (Study fee)
There is no tution (study fee) for this study program.
(In Norway, students enrolled at public universities do not
pay tuition.)

Medical informatics
Regular students at the Department of Computer Science can follow all
INF-courses in the Telemedicine and e-Health program.
During the programme, students take both ordinary computer science courses and
specialized courses in medical informatics, telemedicine and e-health. It is
also possible to take courses in physics, specially intended for medical imaging.
The goal is to enables graduates to contribute in the
development of systems and applications for medical informatics, telemedicine
and e-health applications. The problem formulations for the experimental
activity are derived from medical technology. The aim is that the student should
be able to contribute in the design, adaptation and maintenance of telemedicine
and e-health systems.
The focus on both general and specialized knowledge of theoretical and
experimentation aspects in the design of complex systems in the health sector
also enables students to participate in the development of complex systems in
other areas.
