Medical informatics & Telemedicine group, Department of Computer Science, University of TromsøThe Medical informatics & telemedicine (MI&T) group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø, has 1 professor, 2 associate professors (1 tb announced), 1 adjunct professor, 3 research fellows, and ca. 10 M. Sc. students and M. Eng. students. The work within this area started in 1997-1998. The research in the Medical informatics & telemedicine group mainly focuses on (1) telemedicine systems for private homes and telecare/telehomecare systems, (2) distributed electronic health record (3), patient diary / EHR for children and (4) electronic health surveillance. All projects are done in cooperation with, or closely connected to, the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine, University Hospital of North Norway. Students in the MI&T group participate in construction of medical & telemedicine systems from a computer science perspective. In addition to bachelor, masters and PhD degrees in computer science, the department offers two years international master’s degree in telemedicine and e-health. Medical Informatics & Telemedicine

From 2005, the University of Tromsø has established an international master program in telemedicine and e-health. This is a 2 years program, taught in English. The program has two tracks, technology and health. FocusThe medical informatics / telemedicine / e-health is based on a Computer Science program within the medical domain. The goal is that the students shall be able to contribute in construction, adaptation, maintenance of medical / telemedicine systems. Courses includes:

and information technology and systems to all fields of medicine - medical care,
medical education and medical research." Definition of telemedicine: "Telemedicine is the use of electronic information and communications
technologies to provide and support health care when distance separates the
participants." Another term for this activity is: "medical computer science" (or "medical computing"). From a computer science point of view, the question becomes: How can systems within the area of MI&T be constructed to meet the requirements from all stakeholders?
